While Nandan Coffee came to the city a bit earlier with their store-in-store format at Foodstories on Lavelle Road, this new location marks their debut as a standalone flagship store in the city. We dropped by their outpost located inside Embassy One on Bellary Road on a Sunday afternoon, and lucky us, Yahvi Mariwala, the co-founder of Nandan Coffee, was there to host us. Through industry chat and working with Gen Zs, we learned more about how the brand came about.
Yahvi tells us how the brand name comes from the Nandanvan Estate, their certified organic coffee estate located in Kodaikanal, where all their beans are sourced. While our experience with Nandan Coffee at their Lavelle Road location was limited to picking up coffee-on-the-go during our grocery run, here, it felt more mindful and intentional.
The central espresso bar is obviously the most noticeable element, with the dark green marbled counter that resembles the emerald green hues of the estate. The staff got us started with a few coffee samples to try while the head barista walked us through how there are four distinct Nandan blends to try — Nandan Royale Medium, Nandan Royale Medium Dark, Nandan Royal Dark, and Nandan Espresso Medium Dark- and that you can pick up manual brews such as French Press and pour overs.
The most interesting coffee experience is, of course, the Filter Kaapi Bar, a first of its kind for the brand, crafted solely for Bengaluru, Yahvi mentions to us while the staff loads our table with the all-day café fare with a Podi-spiced Mariwala Scramble, Turkish Eggs, and the Nandan Tiramisu French Toast. But back to the Filter Kaapi Bar, the Peanut Chikki Filter Kaapi and Nandan Filter Kaapi come highly recommended.
Because of the location, there’s sunlight coming through sunrise to sunset, and it gives that nice spot to just hangout for a coffee date or get some quick work done. And if you have a pet, you can make it a date with your furry boo, because the space is pet-friendly. Plus, they have a pet menu too, so really, go all out on your date.
