Want to get out of Bangalore, but HR is being a total pain by not approving leave? Well, like they say if life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Or in this case, just check into the JW Marriott Bengaluru Prestige Golfshire Resort & Spa, at the foothills of Nandi, and just about 60 minutes from town centre.
We checked in for a night, and while the prices for the rooms start at INR 27,000 per night, if you’re really trying to treat yourself, then it’s worth it. A part of five, we chose one suite, and two garden rooms - each with their own pros and very few cons. The suite, though very luxurious with a private dining and drawing room, two bathrooms, two large TVs, a bar and even a bookshelf, didn’t win against the gorgeous outdoors! So, unless you’re actually intending to take in the stunning view of the golf course and the hills, from the ceiling to floor windows, then skip the suite in favour of the garden rooms which have a patio with creeper trellis’ to keep you from the sun. With the same view of the hills, artificial lake and hills, we preferred it.
There are two swimming pools - one lap pool and another Flamingo pool, complete with a bar, Jacuzzi sections and little coves to lounge and wallow in, you and the kids will have a marvellous time. You’ll only want to leave it because there is also a mini arcade with bowling, video games, billiards and foosball to entertain kids and kids at heart! Adults, you know what you’ll love most though? Especially if you’re escaping the humdrum of work and city life? The glorious spa! The Spa by JW is all about incorporating natural elements, and features six overwater treatment villas that have a deck over an artificial lake with the hills in the distance. The spa also has two couple treatment rooms, manicure and pedicure stations, a salon, steam and jacuzzi and a temperature-controlled lagoon pool. Expect Ayurvedic treatments, facials, couples massages, body scrubs and wraps and even hair treatment. For the real deal though, book the JW Signature Spa that includes a mild exfoliation, a deep tissue massage, and a body wrap, all using sandalwood scrubs, oils and extracts. Then soak up the heat in the steam room and Jacuzzi.
The resort has specialty restaurants - Aaleeshan for indulgent Indian food, the newly launched East for Korean, Japanese, Cantonese and a smattering of Thai, Truffle & Co. is the deli and Vista for coffee, I highly recommend the coffee shop The Aviary. Possibly the largest spread in a buffet format in the city, for all meals, it gives you a taste of multiple cuisines. With al fresco and indoor seating options, I found this most convenient, and ideal to satisfy the whole group's "favourite food" requirement.
