Of course, from who else will you hear such good news? Finding awesome is what we do best, and we snooped around, left no stone unturned, and found that not one, but five new spots in the city are expected to open in 2018. None of them are hearsay, mind you, but hey, do take this information with a pinch of salt. And lime and tequila, if you please! Especially when it comes to exact details and dates of opening.
You Heard It Here First: Five New Restaurants To Look Forward To In 2018
Pa Pa Ya
Zorawar Kalra, the man behind Farzi Cafe is all set to launch the Mumbai-based Pa Pa Ya in Bangalore. While the location details and the launch date is still being finalised, we can tell you what to expect. The menu has been influenced by several countries across Asia including Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam, China, Japan, Malaysia, Korea, Indonesia and Singapore. And if you are familiar with Kalra’s style — molecular gastronomy — as seen in Farzi Cafe, then Pa Pa Ya is going to be no exception. A quick look at the Mumbai and Delhi menu throws up dishes such as the Sushi Burger and Beer Battered Avocado Tacos. Pa Pa Yum, right?
Foxtrot
A gastro-pub dedicated to subculture is what the folks at Foxtrot are calling it. Expected to open at Marathahalli early January of 2018, it’s the mothership, three-floored Koramangala outlet that we are eagerly waiting for. If we are to go by the Marathahalli space that we recently checked out {you can read about that here}, then we are expecting a lot at this frat-house-themed gastropub. It’s going to be a space where communities can meet and interact. And it’s going to be a platform where just about anyone from a student to an artist can interact and collaborate. We hear the three floors will house everything from an organic cafe to an art room. Koramangala folks, get ready to trot about.
Burma Burma
With outlets in Mumbai and Delhi, this Asian restaurant and tea room is set to open on the busy 12th Main Indiranagar we hear. Having spoken to our teams in Mumbai and Delhi, we hear this place only serves vegetarian Asian delicacies. Now, all you vegetarians who have ever complained about the lack of veggies at city’s various Pan-Asian outlets, here is a place that only does vegetarian Asian goodness. And no we will not complain! Expect the menu to have everything from steamed buns to fermented green tea leaves served by street vendors from Myanmar to delicacies such as Mandalay Meeshay found across the metropolitan cities like Mandalay and Yangon. Other interesting things you can expect are Samosa Soup, Lemongrass Cooler, Jasmine Tea, Khao Suey, and Tagu Pyi An. The last one is a sago cooked with Burmese palm jaggery-thanya topped with coconut custard.
Rock Salt
While they have had a soft launch at the time of the publication of this recommendation, it’s only early next year that they are opening to the public. Serving regional Indian cuisines in the form of small plates and tapas, expect options such as Spiced Brioche, Raan Tacos, Tandoori Roasted Wing with Chettinad Masala, and wait for it, a Pani Puri bar. Touted as a first in the city, this bar will serve just Pani Puri with 24 kinds of pani including alcoholic ones {yaaas!}. We hear it’s a space with minimalistic decor, with hues of gold and ivory and a vertical garden that takes up half the space. Hello, Insta-worthy decor and food!
Social Sarjapur
Yes, this is the big one. In fact, it’s also going to be the biggest one, we hear. Come mid-2018, Sarjapur will be home to Bangalore’s fourth Social outlet. The folks at Social are not letting out any details about how the space is going to be, but if we are to go by the new outlets that opened across the country {Mumbai recently got a new outlet in Vikhroli}, then we are expecting something industrial, something green, something quirky, and something that’s definitely worth ‘Gramming about. Maybe people of Bangalore are not going to mind the trek to Sarjapur once Social opens. Maybe…
