Shortcut

Located outside of Coonoor {a scenic hour’s drive, infact}, the O’land Plantation is perfect for those wishing to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.

Eco-Friendly Abodes

Set amidst 140 acres of tea plantation, but at a height, we wound our way to the heritage home, and it felt like we were walking on clouds, literally. Once there, pick from three bungalows – The Estate, Hornbill and Pepper House, all made from eco-bricks, reclaimed wood and bamboo. Also, don’t expect Las Vegas lighting, you won’t get it. It’s all solar lighting with low-energy appliances to stay green.

Cosy Up

The Estate House is a 160-year-old manager’s house converted into two rooms, perfect for those who want to live super close to the amenities. It’s also the most grand, with large balconies. Pepper House is suitable for those travelling with tiny tots as it has the childhood dream of a bedroom in the loft. Of course, kids at heart are welcome here too! However, the main attraction here is the Hornbill House which is much like a log cabin, with slanting roof et al. Located right next to one of two waterfalls that are part of the vast property, this room is perfect for a romantic getaway. And the best part? The bathtub overlooks the waterfall. How’s that for absolute immersion into nature?

Home Away From Home

At O’land, one never tends to feel like an outsider. You’ll be pampered non-stop, starting with their lovely home-made and healthy food. All meals are served in the common dining area at the Estate House, which is also an opportunity to meet new people and get to know more about the property. Their fixed menu home cooked meals that are almost are good as Grandma’s {almost}.

Great Outdoors

This place is perfect for those who just want to kick back and relax. And as much as you’ll want to roll about in the dreamy four-poster beds in the room, the outdoors will beckon, sooner or later. They have a number of trails which can be conquered by people of all levels of athleticism {yes, even you can do it}. Apart from the rolling plantations on one side, and the Blue Hills on the other, this is when you can feast your eyes on the dreamy waterfalls too. But, if you prefer a longer and guided tour, they offer those as well {for INR 500}. If photography is your thing, then Sajan, the manager, will help you capture the elusive Indian Hornbill on film {or SD card, rather}.

And, if that hasn’t entranced you yet their library hosts a vintage collection of National Geographic magazines, among other books and some board games to pass the time.

So We’re Thinking…

Being surrounded by pure nature and lovely hosts is sure to make any city dweller happy. If you want a getaway which free from the stress of the world and has great views this is the place for you.
