What Makes It Awesome

Antiques – are they all old stars? Faded and lost forever. I think not; because they can still lighten up dark places, or add a speck of glitter to your already bright corner.

One need not carry a bag full of money to buy antique/vintage pieces. You can buy something small and style it right. And then see that little magical corner, shimmering away to glory. Even a tiny old, rusted, weathered, chipped piece can add so much beauty to your house. Be it an old book, or a toy; or a broken piece of wood from the little clay houses back in the old days that sat on a dusty road. The best thing about antiques is, they are mostly handmade, some were made to order, the owner him/herself created some. Consider investing money in small pieces of Antiques/Vintages, because 'Old is the new New' to start with, in case you are wondering how and what.

Welcome to Virala Antiques & Handicraft Collectibles. When I looked them up on their website and other social media platforms, I realized that they are little restrained about putting themselves on the Internet. They are not open all days and you need an appointment if you want to visit them on their closed days. I usually love to just walk into a store without worrying about appointments. So when they posted about one of the events with a couple of gorgeous pictures, I decided to go.

It looks like a tiny little house from outside, but the way all of their pieces are displayed is really neat. Everything is properly tagged with respective descriptions and age. And Balaji would welcome you, in all likelihood. Don’t forget to meet the lovely Oriole and charming Patrick if they are around. The trio has wonderful stories to tell you about their store and the treasure they bring in from all over the place.

The furniture & artefacts are kept purposefully all around you, give a glance at the ceiling and you would probably find some gorgeous pieces of lamps/light holders. The store has some of the Raja Ravi Verma’s authentic lithos, old posters and printed fabrics, old maps, lamps, Burmese lacquer coated utensils, rare brass artefacts, ceramics and glasses and a huge collection of wooden pieces.

What Could Be Better?

Regular updates on their social media about the latest collections. For people like us who are not centrally located in Bangalore, its long ride to their store.

What's My Pro Tip?

Feel free to browse at your own pace. My advice, keep some time in hand because this collection shouldn’t be viewed in a hurry. Ask as many questions as you want to about the pieces. Every piece has a story and Balaji will narrate it for you. They arrange delivery for big pieces. They constantly add more items to their collection.

I have uploaded some of the pics of how I styled some of the items I bought from Virala.
