Live The (Organic) Farmer’s Life At This Rustic Homestay, A Short Drive From The City

Shortcut

This weekend, try your hand at organic farming and live with the birds and the bees at Organic Mandya’s farm in Maddur.

What Makes It Awesome

When city life gets to you, the Organic Mandya farm, in Maddur, makes for a great escape. A basic but charming homestay, set in the midst of acres of farmland, this is the place to reconnect with Nature. Offered by the folks behind the organic supermarket of the same name in Bangalore’s HSR Layout (and a few other locations), the homestay offers plenty of refreshing farm experiences.

Organic Mandya promotes sustainable living and supports farmer livelihoods. At their farm, you can get your hands dirty by learning a thing or two about organic farming from farmers themselves. When you are done tilling the land, you can spend your time roaming the orchards that are populated with mango, chiku, and coconut trees. Do says your ‘hellos’ to the cows, the pigeons and other creatures that live on the farm. If you are high on luck, you can also spot rare, winged beauties and peacocks.

What Could Be Better

The homestay itself is very basic so don’t go expecting the perks of a hotel. The idea is to spend as much time as you can in the outdoors.

Pro-Tip

You can book a stay on Airbnb. But make sure you approach them well in advance since they take a few days to reply.

Navya considers herself to be the Cassandra of the 21st century – no one ever listens to the wisdom that she so willingly imparts. This is the only Greek tragedy element in her otherwise happy life. She’s got her Husband Charming, has perfected the art of sarcasm, is always fed copious amounts of good food, and is well on her way to self-actualization.
