They say when Bangaloreans are in doubt, they go to Goa, Coorg or Chikmagalur. So, when you happen to pick Coorg, I’ve found a spot for you to hit up -- Paddington Resorts & Spa. Nestled in the middle of plantations near Madikeri, check into villas - there are six types to choose from, each with their own charm, or one of 21 deluxe rooms. The Mellow Glory cottages ones are perfect if you want to step out of the door and straight into nature. The Calista villas channels Santorini luxury with a plus bedroom, living area, with a jacuzzi, and a private swimming pool to boot. Bring out the resort wear, the book and drink, and bask by the pool. There are other styles of cottages too, but the common denominator is always that all have great views and will want to make you spend quality time in and around them.
Meals are had at the restaurant, Melange, which really is a melange of international cuisines including Italian, Chinese, Indian and local. But when in Coorg, I highly recommend sticking to Kodava cuisine. Unwind with a drink or two (coffee, naturally) at Coffee Lounge which is the poolside cafe. If you’re planning to have a heart-to-heart, make it happen here!
Apart from exploring the entire plantation and swimming about, definitely give the zip-line a go. Glide over the coffee plants, and get a bird’s eye view of the whole terrain, while also giving yourself a proper adrenaline rush. Then settle in for a game of chess, carrom, basketball, or as one does in the land of warriors give archery and shooting a shot! There’s always the spa to soothe you muscles once you’re done with all the action.
Those who can ride a bicycle, try not to pass the opportunity to watch the sunrise or sunset at the Chiklihole Dam. It’s spectacular, and is a lovely adventure.
