Photograph Vidhana Soudha Or Shop Desi: This Independence Day Don't Just Sit Home
Walk By Vidhana Soudha
If you’re an early morning person, you must walk past our gorgeous parliament house. With the replica standing beside it, and the tricolour fluttering at the top, you will get the feels whether you admit it or not. Then of course, feel free to take photos, and selfies, against the Bengaluru logo there too.
Check Out The Flower Show At Lalbagh
It is stunning. Even if you’re not much into flora and fauna, the way the horticulturists have done up the glass house, and every little flower bed in the vast gardens, is rather marvellous. There’ll even be India themed creations. This year, the theme pays tribute to the defence folks, so check out miniature soldiers, replica versions of tanks, planes and ships.
Pay Tribute At Freedom Park
Original the Central Jail, this 21-acre park was converted into what we now know as Freedom Park. Staying true to its name, it is the centre of many a protests by citizens. On a normal day though, like Independence Day, you can go to the park to see the jail museum that is rather chilling with life-like clay models of freedom fighters, the sculpture courtyard and even what is known as the People Courtyard. The water fountain and the watchtower, are other attractions.
Eat At Vidyarthi Bhavan
Apart from their divine benne masala dosas, we specifically picked this one over other darshinis and bhavans for the history behind it. Since its inception in 1943, the establishment never closed, or had a day off. But on Friday, August 15, 1947, for the first time, the eatery remained shut to celebrate Indian Independence Day. Till date, the restaurant remains closed every Friday as a tribute. How’s that for a history lesson at breakfast? Read more about it here.
