When we checked out Jodhpur based Felt Ki Dukaan on Instagram we "felt cute" and wanted to buy and keep what we saw forever! Especially the handmade smileys that could very well bring a smile to every face. Imagine bright felt faces in different colours with huge button eyes, pom-pom for hair and beads or ghungroos for embellishment. Too adorable! What was even better were the captions on these posts -- a name for each smiley and real, heartfelt anecdotes penned by the people who purchased them.
These smileys are an outlet or a way for people to tell their stories, shares Mahak, the self taught artist behind the brand. What started as a hobby turned into a way to connect people with their very own felt companions, she adds. These smileys that take hours to make can also be turned into brooches, fridge magnets or keychains. Fully customisable, they make for great gifts and souvenirs too!
But a Felt Ki Dukaan wouldn't be a dukaan with just one felt creation, right? Which is why Mahak decided to use this non woven textile to create felt bound notebooks, wall art and another one of our favourites, earrings. The earrings are standouts simply cause we've never seen Jumbo Cham-Cham Balis or Hoops made with felt. Plus, this material throws colour like no other. Super vibrant and eye catching!
We hear a line of casual clothing for men and women that features detachable felt accessories is also in the making. Stay tuned to this space.
