Located at basement level on Church Street, Pilgrim was started by a former management consultant, Priyanka Haridas in 2012. With a strong focus on tailoring, sharp cuts and fits, and Indian textiles, Pilgrim offers maxi dresses, tops, tunics, kurtas, palazzos and cigarette pants in cotton, silk cotton, and match silks. They also specialise in apparel made with everybody’s favourite fabric of the moment Ikat (anyone else think Ikat is the new black?).
We spotted easygoing maxi dresses with an Ikat bust (goes up to size 16), cigarette pants and palazzos also in vibrant Ikat fabrics (think pinks, black and greys), and summery crop tops in colourful cotton (these might make for great sleeveless blouses with sarees). Worth mentioning are Pilgrim’s shrugs or jackets made with Ikat and Kalamkari fabrics (slip them on a black dress and you are good to go), or their lovely structured shirt dresses that might also moonlight as kurtas paired with jeans. Tie and Dye, Shibori, block prints are other techniques on fabrics they experiment with. We spotted colourful tops fashioned out of delicate Bengal, Jamdani fabric. We especially love some of the detailing on the clothes such as Ikat trimming, fabric buttons, and mirror work.
