Chef Ajay Chopra has come to Bangalore and with him, he's brought Plaka which serves up some interesting food that's a collection of some of Chef's favourites. Located inside Phoenix Mall of Asia, Plaka is done in cosy European style elements—almost like a beach town cafe in Greece. There's a small performance space too where there's live music performance on weekends. Nothing like dinner with some live music right?
The menu is varied and we let the Chef do the picking for us. We started with Gol Gappa Bombs which features a pindi chole stuffing and what a good way to start things it was. We liked the Chicken Shawarma Salad that was served—it's got shawarma spiced chicken strips with plenty of greens including pickled veggies. Works well for a quick afternoon lunch or when you want something light.
The highlight of the night was the Taco-Babs which is the chef's interpretation of tacos and kebabs together. We tried the Lamb Seekh Kebabs and boy were they good. We were informed by the chef that there's a weekly chaat menu that needs to be tried and we were served the Kaju Mattar Ki Dahi Lukhmi, which honestly we would have had seconds and thirds of. It's got Hyderabadi lukhmi topped with a masala chole and fluffy dahi— so good. We were pretty full at this point but the chef got us the Lamb Adana Kebab and Surti Anda Ghotla for mains. The kebab was juicy as advertised while the Ghotla had such an elevated street-style feel to it. For desserts, we had a brilliant Strawberry & Cream Tres Leche—it had us nodding and polishing the plate clean.
Chef Ajay asked us if we had space for the Potlam Biryani but sadly we didn't but we happily told him that we'd be back for that and some of those Bangalore-inspired cocktails.
