Cranganor Riverside Chateau: Your first sight at Cranganor is the river – soothing calm with fishing boats and swooping birds. Expansively laid out over almost 2 acres, there are 7 rooms to this property, each with a view framing the river. The rooms are airy, spacious & cosy with vintage furniture, quaint open-air bathrooms and balconies. The fact that every room faces the river makes it a huge plus.
The open-air dining room serves delicious fresh seafood in addition to wholesome Kerala vegetarian cuisine including grills. An old tiled roof cottage on the property has been converted to a kitschy colourful spa offering various Ayurvedic massages & treatments. Or you could spend time gazing at the river from the gorgeous infinity pool. Trust us, that's surprisingly therapeutic.
For the bibliophiles, there are books at every nook and cranny of the property and plenty of hammocks and cosy couches to just veg out. There are an in-house store cum village shop housing garments made at their very own in a house design studio. The staff is warm and friendly, happy to make your stay memorable.
The outdoor activities are equally interesting. Go for walks or cycle around the village through old temples right up to vast fields. Or take a boat ride around the river exploring village life through the water. For the historically minded it would be interesting to note that 'Cranganor' (the colonial name of Kodungalloor) in the middle of the Muziris Heritage Project which means there are quaint Jewish synagogues (beautifully restored), an ancient Dutch palace home of the Cochin Prime Minister, a church the St. Thomas is to have founded, the oldest mosque in the country etc.. There's also a market walk on Mondays and Thursdays with Stanley through a bustling market with jaggery merchants, rice traders & oil mills. Need we say more?
