According to BBMP’s latest decision, you’ll be expected to pay a fine of INR 500 the next time you’re caught with a plastic bag!

Say No To Plastic

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike {BBMP} is indeed taking its plastic ban very seriously. Going by the civic administrative body’s recent decision {which will be enforced with immediate effect}, you will now have to shell out INR 500 if you’re found carrying a plastic bag. And, that’s not all. Repeat offenders will be charged with a fine of INR 1,000! But, it’s not just the users that BBMP will be penalising; the rule applies to manufacturers {who will have to pay a maximum of INR 5 lakhs}, shopkeepers, vendors, wholesalers and hawkers, too. So, next time you’re out shopping, make sure you stay away from plastic carrier bags and load up on those reusable options.
