When the tourism department named Kerala God’s Own Country in the 80s, clearly they were seeing into the future and saw Purity At Lake Vembanad.

Down By The Lake

Right on the banks of this picturesque lake, that too at its widest, Purity is a lakefront villa that focuses on total relaxation. Sign me up, again and again, please! And it all starts with a hop, skip and jump over stepping stones in a pool.  No, really. That’s how you get to the villa!

Essentially a wellness getaway, Ayurveda and Yoga are high on priority here. But if you don’t want to indulge in it through your stay, there’s plenty more to do. I’d even suggest chilling in the luxury rooms – airy and overlooking the lake. Of course, the garden and terrace suites, take things to the next level, so if you’re looking to pamper yourself then that’s where to check into. Team LBB will make ourselves free, should you want company!

Beyond Infinity

While it’s tough to drag yourself out of the room, when you’re wallowing in the infinity pool {it really feels like you’re swimming in the Vembanad lake}, you’ll feel like you’re in paradise. It’s ideal to also keep cool in the water, and watch the fisher-folk robustly go about their daily chores on the lake. Be nice and they might catch you a fish, even. When you’re tired out from lazing, hit up their charming restaurant – complete with bay windows and stained glass, for a lavish meal. They offer a la carte, but my pick was the set menu {for most meals} to get that real taste of Kerala. With that quintessential coconut flavour, hit of spice and fresh catch of the day, you’ll want to eat all day here.

Go Local

Massages for indulgence or actual treatment should be on the cards for the afternoon. Or if you’re like me, you’ll sneak off to explore the surrounding village, Muhamma, on a bike. With temples, churches, and even martial arts schools, it’s quite a quaint little town. Those who are culinarily inclined, sign up for cooking classes to learn the art of Kerala cuisine. Those who are not, go birdwatching and meander along the banks of the lake to tick off over 30 species of birds.

So, We're Thinking...

While it’s not cheap, such luxury and pampering at INR 8,000 a night for two isn’t too bad. After all, everyone deserves a bit of indulgence, eh?
