Lowdown On Ambience

Situated on Indiranagar’s Double Road, Rayaru’s Kitchen is a modest 30-seater restaurant located on the first floor of a commercial building. The interiors are spick-and-span, and they even have jolly aquariums with ornamental fish {you must check out the slightly eery Flowerhorn Cichlid} for decor.

What’s On The Menu

For what is essentially a military hotel, Rayaru’s doesn’t disappoint on that front at all. They have the essential mudde {ragi balls} and a range of non-veg curries. For starters, try the Koliwada Fish Fry {lightly fried in very little oil} and the Nati Chicken fry, which comes smeared in a tastebud-awakening corriander and coconut paste.

For mains, you choose your carb — muddes, neer dosas, chapatis, naan and rotis {they even have Ragi and Akki roti!} and choose from an exhaustive list of mutton and chicken curries. We suggest getting the Mini Beegaroota {an assorted meal with ghee rice, mudde, two curries, a fried fish and kebabs} for a sampler. If you’re still undecided, there’s also Mutton Donne Biryani. We tried muddes with mutton chops and it was the best we’ve had in a while.

Vegetarians need not despair; they have an equally capable mains menu featuring country favourites such as Bassaru, Mossuppu Saru and Tomato Gojju. For dessert, we were offered soft, flat pieces of Kaayi Holige {a ghee-soaked coconut roti} on the house!

So, We’re Thinking

For those who’ve never tasted dishes available in the homes and villages of Karnataka, Rayaru’s Kitchen is the best place to start your culinary journey. It’s authentic as it gets, and is super affordable.
