After the announcement of the new INR 20 note a few weeks ago, the RBI has just announced that the new INR 50 notes of the Mahatma Gandhi series will be out in circulation soon too! And following through on the bright colours, like the pink/purple INR 2,000 notes, this one is fluorescent blue, and it looks pretty cool!
Signed by the current RBI governor Urjit R Patel, it has the stone chariot of Hampi on the back of the note. Look out also for some geometric and funky design patterns on the front and the back. Oh, also, this note has the denomination in English and well as the Devanagari script. Standard prints like Gandhiji, his glasses, the language panel and the Ashoka Pillar are still on the notes. The year of printing {on the back left of the note} will tell you how new or old the note is. Lookout for the Swachh Bharat logo and Ek Kadam Swachhata ki Aur, on the reverse as well.
Finally, we’ll actually have a note which we can afford. Those INR 2,000 ones really do burn a hole in the pocket. Phew! Oh, we hear the INR 200 notes are not too far behind either.
The was announced on the RBI website.
