Tree Houses, Tents And A Natural Spring Pool: This Eco-Resort Is Paradise In Kerala

    Aakanksha posted on 08 July

    Shortcut

Few things are better than Kerala’s backwaters and beaches. But when it comes to tree houses, natural spring water swimming pools and elephants in your backyard at Regina Silva. That wins, no?

    Up In The Hills

Nestled in the second highest mountain of the Western Ghats — Paithalmala, Regina Silva is an eco-resort that’s practically hidden in the canopy of trees and foliage. Smack in the centre of nature, you’ll literally be walking in the clouds on many occasions — they take eco-resort to a whole new level. Offering cottages, tree houses and tents to camp out in, get ready to soak in nature at its best. This is a case of ‘the mountain has you’!

The cottages, made from bamboo, wood and mud, are rustic but comfortable. The walls are actually thatched and your roof will usually be made from strong coconut leaves. Each has a cute sit out with wicker furniture so you don’t miss out on the view. The tree houses are my favourite though. Built on stilts, they’re also all wood, with mattress on the floor instead of actual beds. Oh, and there are camping tents for the rugged traveller who is happy to take on the winds of the mountain and the rains during the monsoon.

    Spring Time

Not the season, silly. Spring water! No matter how fancy the swimming pool, this natural spring water pool will win hands down. With a mini waterfall at one end to wallow under, and an infinity edge overlooking the lower mountains and the vast valley, it is the best spot on the entire property. Getting out is not mandatory {at least in my opinion}, but then again, when the menu for lunch has things like black pomfret fish, kingfish fry, barbecue chicken and erm…litres of toddy, on offer, maybe get to the main house before your crew!

    Connect With Nature

There’s no WiFi at all, but hey this is your chance to connect with nature. A fish pedicure and fishing is offered free of charge, and for a nominal fee you can set off on guided treks {a lazy stroll or a hectic hike}, jeep safaris to spot wild elephants and even leopards sometimes. Back at the resort, archery, rifle shooting, barbecues, bonfires with an authentic Kerala meal, and even mud therapy can be organised. So, who’s in?
