What Makes It Awesome

Nestled in the second-highest mountain of the Western Ghats — Paithalmala, Regina Silva is an eco-resort that’s practically hidden in the canopy of trees and foliage. Smack in the centre of nature, you’ll literally be walking in the clouds on many occasions — they take eco-resort to a whole new level. Offering cottages, tree houses and tents to camp out in, get ready to soak in nature at its best. This is a case of ‘the mountain has you’!

The cottages, made from bamboo, wood and mud, are rustic but comfortable. Each has a cute sit out with wicker furniture so you don’t miss out on the view. The treehouses are my favourite though. Built on stilts, they’re also all wood, with a mattress on the floor instead of actual beds. There's also a mini waterfall at one end to wallow under, and an infinity-edge overlooking the lower mountains and the vast valley. Getting out is not mandatory, but then again, when the menu for lunch has things like black pomfret fish, kingfish fry, barbecue chicken and erm…litres of toddy, on offer, maybe get to the main house before your crew!

There’s no WiFi at all, but hey this is your chance to connect with nature. For a nominal fee you can set off on guided treks (a lazy stroll or a hectic hike), jeep safaris to spot wild elephants and even leopards sometimes. Back at the resort, barbecues, bonfires with an authentic Kerala meal and even mud therapy can be organised. So, who’s in?
