Sarees are timeless, (in any) period. And we're so glad to be alive at a time when hand painted sarees exist! They look regal, feel regal and most importantly, stay regal. Don't just take our word for it, check out this list of online Indie brands that are creating 9 yards of sheer magic with paint and skilled artistry.
Why are we recommending this? Because hand painted sarees are simply gorgeous and they are a raging trend right now (actually all things hand painted are - check out this list) but also, they help you support local artisans adept in this craft. And, you get to wear art that's lightweight and easy to carry off all day and night! We see no downside, really.
Before you dive into reading, bookmarking and shopping from these brands, here are some tips on how to care for a hand painted saree (they are far more delicate than your regular ol' saree, so extra TLC). Firstly, you don't need to wash a hand painted saree regularly. When you do wash it, use cold water to help preserve the colours. Store it in a dry and cold place, wrapped in paper and when and if you do have to iron it, do not iron directly on the painted area. In fact, dry cleaning is preferred after a few wears than washing at home. This said, do extra research of your own.
