Get In On All The FIFA World Cup Action With These Nifty Apps And Websites

The information in this post might be outdated

For the first time in a long while, India can really get in on all the action of the FIFA World Cup. Most importantly due to the great timings. But we all know that this once-in-four-years phenomenon, brings out even the non-fan of football. It’s all about the buzz, banter and drama. To add to it, there are a few apps that have got us going all sorts of crazy, well after the matches are finished. Be it quizzes, betting, getting information and just not missing a single detail of the competition, you’ve got to download these.

FIFA World Cup App

Surely you have this one. Wait, no? OK, get it now. It’s one of the few official apps that work really well, without your phone crashing each time you open it. From real-time notifications, breaking news on the teams and competition, and match highlights, the FIFA app even gives you exclusive access to videos and highlights, which you may miss on your streaming service or on satellite TV. But we did find it useless when we had no mobile data or WiFi as this app has no offline capabilities at all.

Download it for iOS here and Android here.

Tippny

While this isn’t an actual app, Tippny uses Facebook messenger to really get you in the mood for football. And they’ve got us interested with quizzes, predictions and games, for when the match is not on. They also launch two questions before each game, and if you get them right, you rack up points. Of course, the eventual winner gets cash prizes, but we’re in it more for the fun and trivia. Guessing the scores also helps accumulate points, and with the way this World Cup has been going, we are pretty sure we’re losing. But hey, maybe you’ll have better luck!

StarPick

Endorsed by Bengaluru FC and India star and captain, Sunil Chhetri, this is our favourite fantasy sports platform in the country. While they do cricket, kabbadi, Formula 1, tennis and more, all eyes on the footy section for now. All you need to do is get an account for free, start creating your own teams, in any of the sports you choose, and get playing. You win point that then translate into prize money, so choose wisely, you may just win big, without losing anything. Additionally, you get live scores and results on the page too, so if you’re on the move, you can keep track of your team, your fantasy team and of competition too.

Sony LIV

This is where you can watch the games live, without paying a penny. But if you chose to pay INR 99, then you can stream the games without any ads, and with no lag. Otherwise, live games will be shown (for free), with a five minute delay. In addition to live stream all the matches of FIFA World Cup 2018, catch interviews, team previews, updates on the live game and even post match video highlights. But their highlights come a bit too late after the game, so don’t expect instant gratification if you’ve missed the game. They don’t even release a short version! Ugh. But at least it functions…for the most part. Language swaps to random ones in the middle of the live feed, but try switching it around — we got English on the Hindi tab, and vice versa, for the opening game.
