What Makes It Awesome

Though not as celebrated as Malleswaram’s renowned dosa giants, the tiny Sri Raghavendra Stores has carved a niche for itself with its South Indian eats. Their idli vada combo is one of the best in the city. Around 40+ years old, Sri Raghavendra Stores is a tiny, little gem that packs big punches. Located right outside the Malleswaram railway station, this place is legendary for its South Indian eats. Of course, the ubiquitous Masala Dosa is a no-show here. But Raghavendra Stores’ compact menu more than makes up for that omission. Open from the wee hours of the morning to noon and then again post 4 pm, the shop does brisk business through the hours.

Your first course here has to be the stellar idli and vada combo. The downy idlies comes soaked in a spicy, coconut chutney. And the vada, possibly the best in the city, crackles the minute it meets your teeth. Then, you move on to heftier stuff. There is the Khara Bath, which’s lightly spiced and melts in your mouth. Our personal favourite is the Kesari Bath, a bright yellow blob that’s infused with ghee, cashews, raisins, and plenty of sugar. Of course, you finish up with a filter kaapi or tea.

What Could Be Better

Don’t go expecting an ambience. You pay for your food at the counter and then gobble your food on the pavement in front of the shop.
