Phew! Finally Bangalore gets its very own Suta store, and time for us to finally get to touch and feel the gorgeous fabrics before buying them. Not that it stopped us e-shopping ever, but you know...ain't no school like old school. Like all things cool and indie, the store is going to be on 12th Main in Indiranagar.
For the uninitiated, Suta - named for the founders SUjata and TAniya - the brand is inspired by India's traditional crafts and handlooms and offers sarees, lehengas, blouses, home decor and a bit of menswear, especially in cotton and silk. Of course, the designs, prints and aesthetics are contemporary and bold. Worn and approved by the likes of Madhuri Dixit (she is the gospel for sarees, OK?), Vidya Balan (OK, her too) and Mithila Palkar, Suta work with over 17,000 weavers, is earth conscious and also work to revive ancestral weaving techniques. We are currently tripping on their new blouse and saree collection, Dil Se Re.
Speaking of the launch in Bangalore, Sujata says that the weather, the vibrant buzz and the legacy of arts the city is known for, made them want to set up shop here. And reflecting all of that, the store’s décor and theme are also deeply intertwined with the cultural roots of the city. Expect teak wood shelves, everyday objects dotting the store, all handmade with love and memories as if the store were an ancestral home, carved wooden frames, glimpses of kadappa stone, and of course, the collection of apparel and accessories. There will be sarees, blouses, menswear, home décor and accessories for you to pick up from cosy niches and you wander past mirrored walls, so maybe it's time to add to the IG feed too?
Prices start INR 1,000 upwards.
