Chicken Ismaili roll, Peri Peri Chicken Wings

Drink

You get nothing to drink here. Not even H2O. Just hop down the road to Empire for their fresh fruit juices after you finish here.

Winning for

More than the rolls here, it is the juicy wings with a tandoori touch that will have you order seconds and thirds perhaps.

What we ate

We started off with a Chicken Tikka roll done in a whole wheat wrap {jumbo size} and a Chicken Ismaili roll {whole wheat+jumbo}. The Chicken Tikka wasn’t seasoned enough and was doused in a very sweet pudina chutney, but the Ismaili was succulent, with kababs {marinated with a finger-licking achari masala} tucked into a whole wheat wrap. But our vote here goes to the wings. We tried the day’s special: the Peri Peri wings and boy were they good. Imagine chicken wings slathered in fiery peri peri masala and then grilled in a tandoor. The result was a crisp, slightly charred at the edges, juicy pieces of chicken, which were so good that we felt like ordering another round. Alas! we’d already eaten too much.

The DL on the ambience

Tayabbs has recently moved next door from its former digs and the new place isn’t really about the decor. Colourful rickety benches and tables, and a giant painting of Ambrish Puri broadcasting his evil glare to the the tune of “Mogambo Khush Hua” are the only signs of decor investment in this otherwise self-service type establishment.

So, we’re thinking…

The food here is lovely, but it is best if you do a takeaway instead of sitting and trying to eat a meal here. Also, we were frazzled by the fact, that for a place that runs a business, the foundations of which are based on spicy food, Tayabbs doesn’t even stock bottled water.
