Have You Tried The Thai Puchkas At This Asian Fine Dine In Indiranagar Yet?

Shortcut

Imagine your regular pani puri guy. Now, imagine he’s at Mamagoto. And now imagine him serving you a plate of gol gappas except this time it’s all fine-dine and a beautifully presented plate of puchkas that are bursting with flavours that are reminiscent of all things Thailand — nutty, sweet, and tangy. Sounds wonderful, right?

Hawker's Hall Of Fame

Part of the new Hawker’s Hall menu being served at Mamagoto, the Thai Puchka Bites is a clever {and yum} take on the quintennial street food favourite. Crunchy puris are stuffed with betel leaves, onions, and lime, and served with a sweet ginger sauce. Scoop some sweet ginger sauce into the puris and pop them in your mouth. The first flavour that hits your palate is the raw taste of the betel leaves followed by that spicy kick brought to you by a slice of your truly bird’s eye chilli. And bringing all of this together is the piquant palm-sugar infused ginger sauce topped with peanuts for that extra crunch. The puchkas are reminiscent of sukha puris because the sauce is well saucy rather than watery. Having said all that, this is a perfect fusion starter before you dig into the rest of the menu.

Eat Your Way Through

The new menu, available until July 31st, takes inspiration from the Asian fare served at hawkers’ carts across Thailand. Apart from the Thai Puchkas, you can order the Aubergine and Okra Medley for starters. Crispy aubergines and okra tempuras are seasoned with a sweet coconut cream and served with tamarind sauce. Surfer’s Lunch is the seafood version of the Medley and comes with shrimp tempuras.

Planning to share a meal? Try the Instagram-friendly Mekong Boat Chicken Curry or the beautifully presented Bibimbap. The Chicken Curry is a peanut-scented chicken curry that’s rich and creamy, and topped with glazed broccoli. The theatrics come in the form of rice noodles nests that you need to dip into the curry to munch on. The Bibimbap consists of sesame rice served with tossed vegetables and seasoned with Korean flavours that are light and bordering a bit on bland for anyone who loves bold flavours. Other picks from the menu include the Korean Lamb Bulgogi, Rice Pancake served with minced chicken stuffing and apple-mint sauce, BBQ Red Curry Pork Ribs, Garlicky Rice Noodles, and rather interesting Jungle Hula Hoop Curry — jackfruit and pineapple curry made with a coconut base and seasoned with Thai herbs and spices.
