What Makes It Awesome

By name and by nature, The Art Ghar Jaipur is just that. Your home away from home, albeit I think it’s much for fancy and gorgeous! Set in a 40-year-old bungalow in the heart of Jaipur, this one isn’t just about art. It’s about the reuse of traditional furniture, a space for expression and essentially an oasis of calm if you’re looking to unwind and focus on yourself. All made better with vibrant bougainvillaeas, that are naturally…pink!

At the “ghar” you can check into one of eight rooms that are beautifully done up with different themes. Mindfully curated, each tells a different story, and you’ll find little accents like traditional fabric, antique door knobs and my personal favourite - slanted wall bookshelves. Some of the themes (and room names) are Jugaad where re-sue, repurposed and recycling is the main focus. Expect it to be “inventively frugal yet comfortable, with a utilitarian surprise in each nook”. Then there’s Bindu. A dot, to signify minimalism. Stark and minimalist, this one is devoid of distractions. Check in for natural light, a hammock and uncluttered space to let you think. If you know me, you’ll know my favourite is Kitaabi Keeda - for the bookworm. With a little reading nook, a gorgeous desk space to read or write, and punctuations dotting the wall, if you want to just be, this one's for you. Oh, and the vintage type-writer, old ink pens and pots, make it a dreamer’s oasis.

Since there’s also a little cafe on the premises, you can just sit around pondering over a cup of coffee. The kitchen serves up seasonal dishes with fresh and local ingredients, using the principles of modern Ayurveda, so don’t expect regular cafe fare. This one’s so much better, and we love that it’s run by some of Jaipur’s best home-chefs and cooks.

So if you’re looking to slow things down, mindfully, check in here.
