Tandoori Chicken Fries to Parle G milkshakes, Mumbai-based cafe chain, The J has opened its first joint in the city and they’re serving 30 kinds of fries.

Fries Over Guys

When we heard that popular Mumbai-based cafe chain The J was coming to town, we couldn’t wait to go over and stuff our faces with their many kinds of loaded fries. So the day they opened, we marked our attendance at the space on 100 Feet Road, Indiranagar. Still putting the finishing touches on the place that’s all done up in black and pink, all we cared about were fries. Spoilt for choice, the menu featured around 30 kinds of deep-fried goodness. Popcorn Fries, Nacho Fries, Tandoori Fries and even Chips ‘N’ Fish, there are plenty of vegetarian and non-vegetarian, and even Jain options to gorge on. And if none of these tickle your fancy, opt for the 30th kind of fries, a DIY option where you can make your own fries by picking you base, add-ons and dousing them in the sauces of your choice.

If we had it our way, we’d try all the combinations. No, really! But we finally settled on the Pizza Fries, Chips ‘N’ Fish and the Popcorn fries. Made with fresh potatoes and not the frozen store-bought kind, these were reminiscent of wholesome homemade fries. The pizza version was just as we expected — doused in spiced up tomato puree and cheese. The Chips ‘N’ Fish came with tartar sauce, lime and batter-fried fish. Not what we expected, but a comforting mini meal. We’re not convinced by the chicken nuggets that are part of the Popcorn fries — they were a bit bland and chewy. They didn’t go easy on the cheese, or any of the toppings, which we loved. Especially since prices start at INR 90.

Pass On The J

It’s not just fries that are on offer here. Wash all of that savoury goodness down with their many milkshakes. From Red Velvet Cakeshakes to Caramel Parle G Milkshakes {for real!}, there are many fun flavours to down here, and we can’t wait to try them.

Most of their outlets in Mumbai are just small kiosks, but their space in Indiranagar is a bit bigger, with plenty of tables to rest your fries and milkshakes on. There are even holes on the surface to place your cone of fries or cup of milkshake. It even has a long community table in the centre, with their clever tagline Spead The Love, Pass On The J plastered on it in magenta.

Naturally we’ll see you there soon.
