The South Bangalore suburb of Banashankari {or BSK as it’s commonly known as} is a pretty happening place. On our last trip there, we found that it’s got a good cafe scene {read about that here}. But if you want to explore beyond just food and drinks, there’s something for you too! From hiking to shopping, go forth and explore.

Budget Shopping At The BDA Complex

For those who live around BSK, the BDA Complex is a haven for budget shopping. It’s like a mini-Commercial Street with stores selling all kinds of knick-knacks from earrings to stoles, Kohlapuri chappals to handbags, and homeware to stationery. And yes, most of these come for absolute bargains, so you won’t even feel the pinch. In case you are feeling hungry after all your shopping, there’s plenty to eat around too. Check out the street food scene around the BDA Complex here.

Culture Check At Suchitra Cinema and Cultural Society

The Film Society has been the home for film enthusiasts in the city since 1971 and they frequently have screenings of films, both national and international, so be sure to check out the Facebook page here. You can also channel your inner drama queen at the Centre for Film and Drama which is a part of the Society. They offer short-term certificate courses in acting and the dramatic arts. You can read about that and other theatre classes in the city here.

Park Yourself At This Sculpture Park

The name is a dead giveaway to this park that’s all about stone art installations created by sculptors from across India. There aren’t too many sculptures, but they’re smartly scattered around the park. So make it a bit of an art trail, as these installations double up as selfie spots too. After all, taking selfies with a stone sculpture of a man lying down on a bench is sort of cool. There’s also a mini fountain, but good luck getting a picture of it functioning. We’re still trying for that shot, as it’s hardly operational. Otherwise, just admire the sculpture. Now, it’s not really a lung space for your morning runs, but the Sculpture Park in BSK does offer its greens in the form of grass, shrubs, and small trees.

Go Hiking To Thurahalli Forest

While this is not technically in Banashankari, Thurahalli Forest is located just off Kanakapura Road which is just a hop, skip, and jump away. This stretch of green is considered to be the city’s only surviving forest and it’s a perfect for those quick day trips with the squad or fam, and there’s plenty of fresh air and greenery for you to switch off and unwind. Hiking here is a great way to explore the place, but if you’re up for a spot of adventure, take your bicycle and stray off track. As long as you leave a bread crumb trail, you should be able to find your way back!
