Escape Into Tranquility And Exotic Living At Tisara Villas In Sri Lanka
Shortcut
Perfect Hideaway
Approximately two hours away from capital city Colombo, Galle, the intriguing fort sits pretty. And just a twenty minute ride away is the impressive, and luckily well-hidden Tisara Villas. High walls and a massive gate guard the property, and you know it’ll be a quiet time the instant you drive into the secluded space marked by papaya, banana and pineapple groves. Once the room boys swiftly take over your luggage, you’ll be shown to one of the nine villas, all surrounding a neat swimming pool.
Making Room
Eco-friendly, elegant and quite like your own holiday-home, these villas ooze charm. Meant for longer stays {oh how we love chilling here}, there are two bedrooms, a living area, private terrace and garden and our favourite spot, the half-indoor and half-open air bathroom. Minimalist décor means the serene vibes weave into the rooms too. We love the old-school four-poster bed with mosquito nets to boot, and antique furniture that fit right in with the tranquillity. But best of all, you can roll out of bed and splash straight into the swimming pool!
Palate Teaser
Since it’s positioned to be your home away from home, the staff will indulge you when it comes to food. Fresh food is made for each meal, and they really pamper you by asking what you’d like to have, a few hours in advance. Their elaborate menu covers Oriental, European with a smattering of Sri Lankan. Our advice would be to stay as long as you need to eat everything on the menu! Swordfish Steak {mango and pomegranate salsa, bitter greens and jasmine rice}, Lagoon Prawns with avocado, bitter greens and coconut hearts, roasted red pepper vinaigrette and the Sri Lanka curry with choice of meat or vegetarian, wins the top spot for us. Oh! If you head to the market, bring back fresh catch and the staff will be happy to whip up a customised dish for you.
Wandering Out
When you’re not lounging by the pool, sipping on some potent Arrack {yes, your mini fridge has a few bottles, alongside wine and beer}, then call for Jayalath, pronto. The in-house masseuse, he’s really more a magician who can make all your aches and pains disappear in a single massage. But why stop at one, we say. Koggala Beach in a five minutes walk from this place, but head here in the evening as it’s hot during mid-day. And of course, the rest of Galle, small and easy to cover walking, must be on your to-do list. As should a stop at Nico’s, a quaint bakery café serving divine croissants and piano music.
#LBBTip
Each guest is given a key to the property along with the room keys, making it really safe for kids. In fact, you can leave the tots to play about in the garden and zip into town if needed and they’ll be perfectly safe.
