Tired of heading over to the same old pubs and malls during weekends? Don’t worry! From waterfalls to forests, and hills to caves there’s much to explore around the city. And, with enough of trekking clubs for you to join (after all, the more the merrier, right?), we suggest you get started right away. Go out, explore, make friends and get your adrenaline pumping!

Bangalore Trekking club

Trudge through jungles, conquer mountains and explore waterfalls with this group, founded in 2013. From night treks to Horagina Betta (a hillock near Nandi Hills) to one-day treks to Antara Gange (famous for the temple situated on the mountain as well as the many caves around the place), they conduct exciting trips every weekend. So, no more lazy Sundays!

Indiahikes

Started over six years ago, Indiahikes is probably the first to bring in the concept of trekking communities in the country. While their treks vary according to the season, they have at least four to five expeditions every month. And, you can read all about them on their website which documents each trek in detail (in case you want to go on one by yourself). We particularly love their Green Trails which make sure you don’t leave any garbage on your way (you get an eco-bag for your trash).

Bangalore Mountaineering Club

With almost six treks happening every weekend, BMC is definitely one to bookmark! Some of their most popular ones include the Kodachadri Trek, Kumara Parvatha Trek and Tadiyandamol (Coorg) Trek. Head to their website and you’ll find a detailed description of what to expect on the trip as well as helpful tips on what to carry.

Bangalore Hikers

Started by trekkers Deepika Muthusamy and Santosh Kumar Gupta in 2014, Bangalore Hikers has over 1,100 members. From one day trips and weekend treks to longer expeditions, their treks also include a good deal of photography while letting members connect to each other. Oh, and ‘no alcohol, no smoking and no littering’ is a rule they follow strictly.

Adventure Adda

Don’t have the equipment to join one of those exciting treks? Despair not. We suggest you join Adventure Adda, a group for those who are truly passionate about the activity. Formed by a bunch of adventure-lovers in the city, they provide the necessary equipment for the monthly treks they conduct. They have already trekked to places like Kudremukh and Brahmagiri. You can also expect a spot of camping, in case you don’t find a homestay nearby to stay overnight.

Email them at adventureadda@gmail.com to become a member.

Get Beyond Limits

More of an organisation than a club, Get Beyond Limits focuses on outdoor activities, and treks form a major part of them, we must say. Apart from trips to areas like Kunti Betta, Sharavati and Savandurga, they also do treks for social causes (a recent one was for HIV-positive children).

Bangalore Ascenders

A team of trekkers and nature lovers, Bangalore Ascenders is all about exploring places and enjoying a dose of greenery. Apart from treks to Bhimana Kindi (a hill near Mandya, known for its natural rock arch formations), they also have a lineup of Himalayan treks for the hardcore enthusiasts.
