Shortcut

It’s all about the seafood at this iconic place. So get a bib, and tuck into all the prawn, crab and fish here. Also, there’s some vegetarian stuff too!

Something's Fishy

Mercifully less elusive than a real unicorn, this iconic seafood restaurant serves food that may seem mythical! While they have Chinese and North Indian food on offer too, you’re better off going here with a one-point agenda — the underwater offerings. Oh! How you’ll start drooling at the menu (or is that just us?). Then, once you get over the few spelling errors, get straight to ‘Costal Food’, which is always fresh, not frozen.

Under The Sea

Try the prawn pepper fry to get off to a fiery start, then, ask for fish fry. On most days they have a choice of Seer, Kane, Pomfret and Mackerel, but we love the simplicity of the red chilli powder and salt — the only two ingredients it’s marinated in. But if you get filled up easily, then skip it all and keep your eyes on the prize – Unicorn Special Prawn. A little bit oily but in a typical garam masala and chilli powder, they are truly worth killing for. Not that we promote it, but just saying.

On Track

Order crab chilli if you like crunching your way and getting your hands dirty. It really is satisfying. Or perhaps try the Unicorn Special Masala here too, which is a semi-gravy and is a match made in heaven for the neer dosa {soft, and thin, just how they’re meant to be}. Chicken Ghee Roast is one thing we’ll deviate for, and happily so. With rice on the side, you’ll be in heaven mopping up the spicy, Mangalorean gravy long after the soft, succulent chicken is gone. Vegetarians, do order the paneer version which is rather nice with naan. Channa Masala here is legendary, so tuck into that too.

So We’re Thinking…

While the place does look slightly run down {we prefer to say aged with time}, the food more than makes up for it. A go-to place for Mangalorean food and all things from the mighty waters, it keeps us coming back over and over.
