What Makes It Awesome

You might have seen the silhouette of this iconic building across various creatives, logos, and whatnot. If you are new to Bangalore, then this silhouette is nothing but the iconic Vidhana Soudha, the legislative house of the Karnataka Government. It's one of the most recognisable iconographies for Brand Bengaluru and it's one of the major tourist spots that almost every walking tour company and tour operators take everyone to. Conveniently located opposite Cubbon Park and overlooking the Karnataka High Court, Vidhan Soudhan is a thing of beauty. Built entirely of granite, it is touted to be the largest state legislature and secretariat building in India and is spread over 60 acres.

The building was completed in 1956 and it features a neo-Dravidian style that is inspired by the architectural elements of the Chalukyas and Vijayanagara. One of the most visual elements is the dome crowned by the State Emblem of India, followed by the 12 granite columns. While entry inside is restricted due to security reasons, come mornings and evenings, especially on weekends, you will see plenty of people taking pictures with the building on the backdrop. You will also see people jogging along who are either getting back or out of Cubbon Park. There are plenty of street photographers who will take your picture with the entire building in the frame for a fee.
