This themed hotel in Mysore is for lovers of sports, and those looking for a quirky stay. Each room at Villa Park is even modelled on a sports personality! This is a great win!

Win-Win

I am a self-confessed sports fanatic, and when I heard that sleepy old Mysore has a hotel that is entirely themed around sports, I was ecstatic. A first in India in that it’s located opposite six stadiums — yup, you can even see athletes practicing, playing hockey and being awesome, Villa Park is a real haven for sports lovers.

The facade itself is white, with pops of colour coming in the form of funky artwork that says GOAL!, I Love Sports and graffti-style art. Plus, each window frame is painted in a different colour. Inside, a super cool painting of Michael Jordan attempting a slam dunk welcomes you with his famous quote, “Practice like you’ve never won, play like you’ve never lost.” And the wall behind the reception desk is covered with team logos.

Oh, and the rooms are all dedicated to a sports personality each — from Lionel Messi to Leander Paes. Others include tennis players and hockey stars {women’s hockey too!}, to golfers {suitably for the corporate rooms} and Yoga experts in the family room. It’s all business-like on the amenities front with roomy bathrooms, WiFi, comfy beds and of course, a quote painted on the wall to see the theme through. The categories are spot on too — Nets {non-AC}, Pitch {AC rooms} and Field {suites}.

On The Pitch

When your tummy begins to rumble, sprint off to Goal, the in-house vegetarian and vegan-friendly restaurant. Decked out to look like a football pitch with names of different leagues on the wall, you’ll want to run out and play instantly. I also hear there’s an all-day diner and pizzeria scoring soon. Naturally, it’s called Time Out.

Outside, in the arena, you can get involved in actual sports too, so take along a football or frisbee and get playing. Oh, and there’s a Decathalon walking distance from the hotel. So if you’re looking to a spot of sporty shopping, you know where to go!
