Bringing the hostel trend to Chikmagalur, Zostel’s property in a coffee plantation will probably win over fancy hotels and resorts!

What Makes It Awesome

Sure the homestays and hotels in Chikmagalur are awesome, but let’s get your creativity flowing. Picture a mansion in the middle of seemingly unending coffee plantations, graffiti on the walls inside, bunk beds straight out of Enid Blyton, and private rooms (in case you want privacy with bae or BFF to gossip). Then add to that a large garden with hammocks dotting the space. Practically perfect, yes? Well, my dears, that is exactly what Zostel at Chikmagalur is. Offering mixed and women-only dorms for about INR 699 a night, and cute private rooms starting at INR 2,200, the Zostel is really a huge plantation bungalow that has been remodelled into a quirky hostel. Even the private rooms retain the hostel quirk, with drawings on the wall, zany bed linen and minimalist decor — a dressing table, bedside tables, lamps, a chair or two, and a tall boy. The dorms, of course, are decked out in trademark orange and white, with bunk beds lining the sides. Top or bottom, pick wisely!

The common room is just like you want it to be — chilled out, graffiti on the walls, and bean bags. Oh, and wait for it…a PlayStation! So much win! Also check out the cool parody film posters that involve Terminator, Star Wars and even Ironman. And since you’re in coffee county, you can safely assume that good coffee will be at hand. With all that, plus new or old friends, board games and music to keep you company, it’s pretty much paradise. Do make time to check out a few plantation tours and hike up a few mountains. You won’t regret it. If you need some help, check out our favourite trek in the area here.

Pro-Tip

There’s a courtyard with a water body in the middle and deck chairs around. It’s my favourite spot at this hostel. For best results, park yourself here with a cuppa and a big book.
