Shortcut

A hidden gem, tucked away in Rajajinagar, Aakruti Books has been winning over the city’s bookworms with its curated collection of second-hand and regional language books. An added bonus is that they host literary events too.

The Book Nook

About seven years ago, Guruprasad D.N. decided to make his love for literature official with Aakruti Books. Located in Rajajinagar, Aakruti {they also have a publishing house} looks to keep alive the culture of browsing through a bookstore which is fast losing ground in today’s age of online stores. What we loved about Aakruti is their curated collection of second-hand books. When it comes to non-fiction, you can browse through stacks under headings that range from ‘World History’ to ‘Cricket’. Prefer fiction? Then, you can find everyone from Stan Lee to Frederick Forsyth and Mario Puzo — arranged alphabetically. India’s best-known authors get their own dedicated section as well. Prices begin at INR 10 and go up to INR 500. And if you can’t find your favourite book here, they’ll help you find it as well.

Local Lingo

Passionate about Kannada literature, Guruprasad is committed to promoting love for the local language. At the store, you can pick up literary works from biggies like U.R Ananthamurthy, Kuvempu, and D.V. J. Every month, you can also participate in events where you can interact with poets and authors. Details on the events can be found on their Facebook page.

Navya considers herself to be the Cassandra of the 21st century – no one ever listens to the wisdom that she so willingly imparts. This is the only Greek tragedy element in her otherwise happy life. She’s got her Husband Charming, has perfected the art of sarcasm, is always fed copious amounts of good food, and is well on her way to self-actualization.
