What Makes It Awesome

Over a hundred years old, the iconic Albert Bakery still stands tall with its fresh goodies, including everything from buns and pastries to their popular savoury snacks.

Ask the owner, Nawab Jan or his son, Sabir Faizan (the duo manages the bakery), and they will tell you about the humble beginnings of Albert Bakery (probably the oldest in the city). When Sabir’s great-grandfather, Mohammed Suleman, started the store in 1902, it was not more than a godown (on Sangam Road, near Kamaraj Road). Supplying breads, buns and biscuits on a cycle, the business grew popular, thanks to the quality and taste of their offerings. And, the rest, as they say, is history. Open only in the evenings, the first half of the day here is devoted to preparing everything on the menu.

The whiff of freshly-baked goodies is what welcomes you to the bakery located on Mosque Road. And, of course, the tempting sight of display bays holding everything from plain croissants, pastries, cakes and biscuits to a selection of savoury snacks. Apart from the regular loaves of bread and buns, they also have garlic bread for you to stock up on. And, while you’re at it, make sure you get yourself a pack of their famous Salt Butter Biscuits.

No trip to Albert Bakery is complete without trying their snacks. The Mutton Kheema Samosa, Chicken Malai Cutlet and Chicken Seekh Roll here come highly recommended. They also have cocktail samosas (mini samosas), khova naans and puffs (chicken and mutton versions) vying for your attention.

Price: INR 15 upwards

Pro-Tip

Known for their festive season specials, they dish out brain puffs, Khova Naan and Chicken Kheema Naan during the month of Ramadan, non-alcoholic plum cake for Christmas, hot cross buns for Good Friday and marzipan Easter eggs (and plain ones, too) for Easter.
