Winning For
The artisan breads and rolls which are totally preservative, stabiliser and chemical free, and the generously portioned desserts, all available for a price that isn’t too heavy on the pocket.
Lowdown On The Ambience
Located in the same premises as parent restaurant Green Theory, the Bakehouse interiors are rustic-chic with a minimalistic decor. Clay and mud walls, distressed furniture, dried ferns in earthen pots {remember those old jars in which your ajji would store pickles?} all exuding a certain rustic charm.
Breads, Breads and More Breads
What could be more appealing than a slice of warm bread fresh out of the oven? If this image has got your tastebuds in a tizzy, we recommend the Pesto Swirl — soft swirls of bread, laced with dollops of pesto sauce, and studded with olives. Cheese lovers, look no further than the Cheese Swirl — with soft cheese inside and topped with a crunchy cheesy garnish, this is truly a thing of beauty. The Bakehouse also offers a selection of loafs — multigrain and white — which you can use to prepare sandwiches at home, along with pizza bases, buns and pita breads.
Chocolate Fix
If you are a chocoholic then you can’t go wrong with the desserts here. The crowd-favourite Salted Caramel Dark Chocolate is salty, chocolatey and all kinds of delicious, while the Nutella Brownie is sure to be a favourite with adults and children alike — beneath a thick layer of lusciously smooth Nutella lies a gooey and crumbly brownie. But what we absolutely loved was the Chocolate Peanut Butter Tart — a ring of chocolate flavoured with peanut butter, topped with crunchy peanuts! The piece de resistance here is the Apple Tart though. And this is coming from a complete chocoholic! The sweetness of the stewed apple filling slathered on the crumbly tart base is wonderfully complemented by a crunchy oat top layer.
So, We're Thinking...
The desserts are the perfect way to end your meal, and most of the selections work well, both for a dine-in or as a snack to munch on, as takeaway. Either way, don’t miss them!
