What Makes It Awesome
After Mysore’s Trin Trin project, Bangalore is all geared up to adopt a public bicycle sharing (PBS) system inspired by Copenhagen’s cycling culture. PBS acts as a flexible form of personal public transport for a short rides and returned to one of many designated spots. Using app-based bicycle sharing operators with a small fee, this is to encourage citizens to switch over to environment-friendly modes of transport. They also act as last leg transport services to and from metro stations.
Did you know we have a 20 km stretch of dedicated cycle lanes in the city? (we’re surprised too!) These include a 16 kilometres in the CBD area, two on Cubbon Road and two around Madiwala Lake. Never mind that some of those lanes are unreachable because some are highly elevated! Yeah! Having identified 400 parking hubs in areas like HSR Layout, Banaswadi, HRBR Layout, Koramangala, Indiranagar, Vidhana Soudha and MG Road, about 3,000 cycles are available. After paying an initial registration fee, using a cycle will cost you as little as INR 10 for up to two hours. So if you’re thinking of heading to your friend’s place in the area, hire a cycle and get in some exercise for the day.
