Stanley Tucci might not be searching for Italy in Bangalore, but poor souls like us who have the "little problem" of getting a Schengen visa are searching for Naples to Rome in Garden City. Specifically Italian food in Bangalore (Not the whole red sauce-white sauce business that's often passed for Italian in most cafes). We're talking about fresh handmade pasta, wine, antipasto, Parmigiano Reggiano, and the whole shebang. Luckily for you, our search for Italian restaurants in Bangalore has led us to some good meals and this list. In no particular order, here are our favourite (and top) Italian restaurants for all things Italian. Buon appetito!

Alba

It's easy to fall in love with fresh, in-house pasta at Alba. Even their Venetian-style tapas will steer you towards a night of fun Italian meals with your partner or friends (it is easier to split the heavy bill that way too). The Cacio E Pepe Tortelli is something you need to order if you are looking at strictly having pasta only. If you're looking for a feast, then our recommendations are the 24-hour Pork Belly or the Black Cod served with clam-infused quinoa. Classic flavours are there for anyone who's looking to keep things simple and neat. If not the gelato of the day, then Alba Tiramisu with espresso Kalhua syrup is the way to end things.

Caprese

On the 18th floor of Shangri-La Bangalore, it's a little bit of Capri thanks to the hotel's in-house Italian restaurant Caprese. We dined here many moons ago on a date night and we left as happy souls. The pasta section is our favourite since we do love our carbs just like the Italians — the Spaghetti Alla Napoletana, a simple tomato sauce pasta works every time. Gnocchi, Italian cold cuts, and their pesto come highly recommended too. And yes they have the wine collection to match the food.

Timings: Tuesday to Sunday from 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM and 6:30 PM to 11:30 PM, Closed on Mondays

Chianti

Chianti is perfect for an Italian meal that’s replete with familiar and comforting flavours. Even though they have multiple outlets across the city, our soft spot is for the Koramangala and the Indiranagar ones. Their pasta offerings have plenty of variety and combine delicious flavours like fettuccine mixed with Italian ham and a creamy, mushroom sauce. The Grilled Lamb Chops with Rosemary Potatoes and Grilled Pork Chops with red wine jus — are also excellent choices for the main course.

Timings: Monday to Friday 12 Noon to 3:15 PM and 6:30 PM to 10:15 PM

and Saturday and Sunday 12 Noon to 10:30 PM

Alto Vino

Whitefield's Alto Vino keeps the Italian food classic and fun. The chefs here will whip you up delights like the Fritto Misto — batter-fried shrimp and calamari. You can then kick your meal into high gear with a rich plate of Fettuccine Bolognese served with a buffalo ragu. Or if you love your cheese then we recommend the Tre Formaggio Tortellini Cacio E Pepe. On the dolce front, cannoli, tiramisu and cassata are your choices. Have them all.

Timings: Monday to Friday 6 PM to 11 PM, Saturday, 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM and 6 PM to 11 PM and Sunday 12:15 PM to 11:45 PM

Spettacolare

Spettacolare is serving up fresh handmade pasta (which you can also see being made while you are dining there) in Bangalore. If possible, get anything with spaghetti or fettuccine — cacio e pepe being our favourite. They also do fresh ravioli with assorted fillings to choose from. The menu is vegetarian (with few egg-based dishes) and you must try their panzeroti and their pizzas topped with in-house buffalo milk burrata. Oh and (leave the gun and) take the cannoli. There are no reservations on the weekend, so wait times can be a bit long.

Timings: Monday to Sunday 12 Noon to 11 PM

Pricing: INR 1,000 for two without alcohol

Sunny's

Sunny's isn't quite Italian — it's more European but it does a very good job at serving some quality Italian food at its Lavelle Road restaurant. Be sure to fill up on Goat Cheese Crostinis, Lamb Lasagna, and Spaghetti Carbonara. Many patrons have also given a thumbs-up to the Angel Hair Pasta with basil, garlic and chunky tomato sauce. End your meal on a high note with the no-fuss tiramisu.

Timings:  Mondays 12 Noon to 3:15 PM and 5:30 PM to 10:30 PM and Tuesday to Sunday 12 Noon to 10:30 PM

Toscano

A chain restaurant they might be but their inventive menu has proved to be a crowd-puller wherever they go. They have a wine menu that goes with their food and you're treated to some good Italian food. The Stracciatella Burrata is impressive while on the pasta front, we like to stick to the pesto and the Risotto Con Pollo. Classic Tiramisu and Chocolate Kahlua Mousse are our Dolci favourites.
