Despite what plantfluencers and Pinterest boards might have you believe, plants can be tricky to maintain, but everything can thrive if brought up with enough sun, water, patience and lots of love. There’s no dearth of nurseries and gardening centres in Bangalore and biophilic design is having a long moment. Growing and maintaining plants is great for mental health, lungs and is a productive hobby to have. For those who want to start their plant parent journey or veterans looking for specific plants, here are some of the best nurseries and garden centres in Bengaluru!
Satisfy Your Green Thumb At These Nurseries & Garden Centres In Town
Balaji Nursery
Located in Jayanagar, Balaji Nursery is a wholesale plant nursery that can help you with indoor plants, garden plants, plants for water bodies and for apartment dwellers—vertical gardens/green walls and terrace gardening too. They have a lovely collection of popular succulents, ornamental plants as well as air-purifying plants and are knowledgeable about plant care. Tell them what type of plants you can accommodate and how much your schedule allows for plant care, and they’ll give you a number of suitable plants for your home. They also do home delivery, so don’t worry about carrying multiple plants home if you have big, green plans!
Indo American Hybrid Seed Garden Centre
The Indo American Hybrid Seed Garden Centre in Banashankari has everything a plant and gardening enthusiast will need. Flowering plants, seasonal plants, succulents, cacti, orchids and everything else (including ferns, bonsai and a range of ornamental plants) is available, some starting at as low as INR 35! They also stock various seeds, planters, garden accessories (stands, tools and the like), plant food and medicine. If you can’t make it to Banashankari, they have another outlet in Ambara (Ulsoor), and also show up at various pop-ups and flea markets.
Lalbagh Nursery
Lalbagh was Bangalore’s OG nursery and Botanical Garden since Hyder Ali laid the plans. Over time, it grew into a greenhouse and nursery for the British government to house plants that would adorn the city. Now, right by the entrance is where you can find their nursery. Pick up everything from hibiscus, jasmine (even the creepers), bougainvillaea, ornamental plants like crotons, money plants, anthuriums and palms, and even exotic plants (though this is down to luck as they vanish as soon as they are stocked). This is a great place to pick up outdoor plants and trees too if you have the space.
Pro-Tip: If you take your own vehicle, you'll need to pay and park at Lalbagh's parking area. The nursery is right by the entrance if you're entering from Shantinagar.
Garden Care
Located in Yelahanka, past the Allasandra Gate bus stop, the nursery and gardening centre was started by a senior horticulturist (and employs others with equivalent expertise as well). With nearly 1,000 plant species, they’re the go-to for bulk and wholesale plants for many star hotels, hospitals, apartment complexes, malls and more, so you can bet on their quality too. Flowering plants, indoor plants, hanging plants and exotic plants like the Swiss Cheese plant and Monstera are available. They also sell compost, red soil, basic pots and various types of stands and support structures for plants in the centre.
Krishnendra Nursery
Krishnendra Nursery is one of many in Siddapura near Lalbagh that sells a variety of plants at incredibly low prices. This specific nursery uses biotech to grow plants that look and are healthy and resistant to common problems. If colourful plants (flowers or leaves) are what you seek—look no further because that’s where their expertise lies. If you want those fascinatingly large double (or more) shaded hibiscus plants, they have over 20 varieties of them. They also stock and sell a range of gardening accessories and stuff like gravel, pebbles, soil and functional planters for the ground, wall and railing.
Pro-Tip: The rest of Siddapura (especially the side road near the gate) has plenty of other nurseries, with some offering discounts over their shockingly low prices. You may have to build a relationship with the store owner(s), but most are helpful and passionate about gardening themselves.
PCR Nursery
With over a 1,000 varieties of plants, this nursery near Electronic City calls itself a plant mall! They grow all their plants in a 300-acre facility (with seven climate zones!) and sell it at their ECity location, and one in Tamil Nadu. Begonias, chrysanthemums, hydrangeas, over 40 types of aglaonema, air plants, ferns, monstera, cacti, succulents and more are available. Bonsai, fruit trees and a few flowering trees (seed and saplings) are available too. The space is huge, go through their catalogue (though it doesn’t have everything), pick what you need and try not to buy everything at the nursery when you get there. They also sell gardening tools and accessories, and a range of pots in various materials.
Saniya Nursery
If you’ve driven past Agara Lake (not on ORR), and seen a huge collection of terracotta pots, and lots of plants for sale, you probably went past Saniya Nursery. From Tulsi to jade plants, lotus to marigold, they have a lovely range of plants that are great for your home. Though the more exotic and seasonal plants are available subject to weather and climate, if you let Arif the owner know, he’ll keep you posted. And if there’s a common plant you know you want, Saniya Nursery is likely to have it, and will happily Dunzo it to you if you live within a 5-kilometre radius. Be warned that there are other similar nurseries nearby, and since there’s no standard pricing, will sell similar plants at wildly different rates.
Green Yard
The Green Yard is a garden centre and plant store that sells all types of plants, gardening basics and accessories, plant medicines and supplements among other things. Despite being a store, their rates are competitive, and reviews say that the plants have lasted long and stayed healthy over the years. Apart from commonly available plants (indoor and outdoor) and bonsai, they also have a range of medicinal plants and fruit trees. And the best part is that you can order online and across the country if you don’t want to make the trek to HSR Layout. Of course, they have a range of cute planters and pots too. They often have kokedama balls, terrariums and the like available at the store.
Klorophyl
If you only have the space and time for indoor plants and gardening, then Klorophyl will be your new BFF. Exclusively stocking only indoor and semi-shade plants, the team at the store knows exactly how to take care of each and every plant there. Alocasia, Monstera, ZZ Plants, creepers and climbers and everything in between are available here as well as plant-care kits and accessories. Once you make a purchase, you are welcome to get in touch with the team at any point with queries as they’re experts, and check out their Instagram, which has helpful guides and tips.
The Bagh Store
Another store that’s great for urban gardeners in the city, The Bagh Store, stocks all the usual suspects like hanging bridal lace, hoya plants, anthurium and a variety of succulents. They also seem to have some rare plants like the cobra fern, echeveria 'raindrops', the Hindu rope plant, string of hearts and watermelon peperomia among others. They also have a range of herbs and medicinal plants. Pepper, Betel, brahmi, ajwain, curry leaf, basil, rosemary, lavender, mint, lemongrass and thyme are some of the available options. You can go to their store at BTM Layout and have a look or order it online. Pots, accessories (to hang plants in as well as tools) and propagation bottles can also be ordered.
