A good sandwich can change your life! While they may have humble beginnings, their spot is high on the Best Foods Of All Time List. What’s not to like about it, eh? It’s got carbs, protein, veggies, dairy (hello cheese!) and it’s easily available. Plus, so very customisable. You can literally put anything and everything you want between the two (or more) slices of bread. So, we’re throwing the spotlight on some of the best sandwiches in town. Bready for it?

Smoke House Deli

With solid fillings, fries (regular or sweet paprika) and a little salad to go with all the sandwiches, sandwiches remain a hot seller on their menu. Smoked Salmon cream cheese is a top favourite with the LBB Crew, with the Herbed Balsamic Smoked Chicken and the Pulled Chicken and Pickle Mayo tied for second place. The vegetarians among us, swear that the Smoked Tomato and Brie sandwich will convert us into full-time fans. The sandwiches are heavy and you can easily make a meal of them. But when ordering home, the bread gets a bit soggy so instead of getting them to grill or toast it, we recommend getting it plain, and whacking it into the oven for a bit.

Candice’s Gourmet Sandwiches

Nothing quite compares to a well-stuffed baguette or ciabatta on any given afternoon. While there’s the Grilled Chicken & Cheese (Emmental), the Chicken Bahn Mi channels lemongrass chicken and pickled radish exactly as it should, and The Philly Cheesesteak, we usually do not get beyond The Cuban which the classic including roasted pork, shaved ham, mozzarella cheese, and mustard. For vegetarians, the mushroom version of the Philly steak, and the Tofu Bahn Mi are prime options. The menu also has a few vegan options, but we genuinely have not gone beyond the other options. But the bread, oh, the bread makes up for everything. Fresh, flavourful and very French, it really is what makes Candice’s sandwiches so stellar.

Local Ferment Co.

Local Ferment Co. calls their sandwiches The Best Goddamn Sandwiches, and we're not even complaining cause from what we have tried and heard, they really are one of the best sandwiches places in town. The classic is a meaty affair with bacon, pepperoni, roasted pork, grilled tenderloin, burrata, and house sauces between Foccacia! The bagel sandwich is our pick -- it's got in-house smoked salmon, cream cheese, dill and signature red wine onion jam. We have our eye on The Best Damn Hoagie next -- a baguette sandwich layered with smoked ham, pepperoni, salami, goat cheese and sundried tomato.

Brik Oven

Yes, Brik Oven makes some of the best pizzas in the city, so it’s only natural that they’d make amazing sandwiches too; bread, veggies, meat, and sauces - it’s the exact same set of elements! Brik Oven keeps it simple, hearty, wholesome with its options. Sticklers of classics, blindly choose the Chicken Club or the Ham n Cheese that will treat you to salami Milano, salami Napoli, homemade smoked ham, fresh mozzarella, herb aioli, provolone & arugula. Vegetarians, the Caprese is fresh and filling (the arugula and fresh pesto really are unparalleled. Those who love to experiment can try the Figs and Burrata (the sweeter elements really work well with the rest of the flavours) or the Burrata & Prosciutto. We’re warning you that the sandwiches are heavy enough to keep you full all day! And should you want to make sandwiches yourself, Brik Oven even delivers fresh Mozz (and other cheese), sourdough loaves, and artisan meat toppings.

Disclaimer: Brik Oven is currently not accepting orders for sandwiches. Their pizzas, salads and garlic bread is still very much available though,

Paris Panini

Safe to say we taste a little bit of La France in Bangalore every time we visit Paris Panini. Specialising in street food, the paninis are very obviously the stars here, pressed and grilled to perfection on both sides. The menu is extensive and so are the vegetarian and non-vegetarian fillings that go between in-house freshly baked bread. Hot veg favourites would be mozzarella, sun-dried tomatoes and basil pesto in Laura and Leá with a filling of roasted veggies, jalapenos and olive tapenade. Meat lovers, we recommend Jacques, a medley of garlic butter prawns, olives, onion rings and garlic aioli and Jean with bacon, fresh feta, fried onions and sriracha aioli. These delightful sandwiches can be ordered as half or full with a side and a homemade dip too. They are quite filling, so you may want to go easy on the sides and ideally get a salad that doesn't take away from the glory of the panini.

Hole In The Wall

This list wouldn’t be complete without including one of the OGs in Bangalore’s sandwich game - Hole In The Wall. One of the best places for American deli-style sandwiches, expect classic fillings like honey mustard chicken, sausages, and pepperoni among others. All made homestyle, the bread used include your regular sandwich bread, breakfast rolls, and hot dog buns among others. Vegetarians - relish their classic Coleslaw option, veggie clubs, spinach and corn, or cheesy mushroom among others. You have the option of making your own also (called Sub-in-your-tub), and all will leave you just as stuffed. If a sandwich and shake are what you crave, then Hole in the Wall should be able to leave you fully satisfied.

Hari Super Sandwich

Hari Super Sandwich is an addiction masked as sandwiches. Everyone is in love with this spot (an unwavering crowd is a testament), especially college-goers, and we hear local film stars are as smitten too. All of their outlets are hole-in-the-wall spots, so the ambience is a downer but their innovative all-vegetarian and desi sandwich creations more than make up for this. We already declared their Chilli Cheese Sandwich a clear winner on our This or That episode, but definitely give their eccentric versions a whirl too. Like the Gulkand Toast, Cheese Corn Dahi Toast, and of course, the famous Chocolate Cheese Toast -- a slab of chocolate and cheese sandwiched between two slices of bread. Speaking of, the bread comes from their own bakery unit in Hindupur (Andhra Pradesh), cool na? All Hari Super Sandwiches are lightly toasted on a flat tawa and served the same way, cut into 6 bite-size portions.

Cool Joint

It so happens that Cool Joint is at the tip of the tongue of every shopper who throngs Jayanagar. A small little corner joint selling fresh fruit juices, ice-creams and milkshakes, you will find the place inundated with people at all times. Why you may ask. Their grilled sandwiches are the reason why. Their Grilled Cheese Tomato Sandwich is comforting to the last bite and just the energy you need after a tiring day of shopping or even work. Now, these sandwiches, grilled, are hefty and filling so we suggest you pair them up with fresh seasonal fruit juices or milkshakes. Finish things off with their kulfi. We shall not forget to mention that they have daily special sandwiches too.

The Nosh House

Claiming to be making the city’s best sandwiches, The Nosh House racks up an elite sandwich with fresh artisanal ingredients and a delightful medley of flavours. The selection is primarily vegetarian barring a few egg dishes and the cloud kitchen has a rotational menu that will have you wanting something different every day. Our pick had to be the Mushroom Melts Sandwich, creamy butter-sauteed mushrooms catapulted into flavourland by the blanket of molten cheese and a bed of roasted garlic mayo they rest on. Now if you want the eggs, go for their Sun-dried Tomato, Pesto, Egg and Cheese Sandwich. This biggie has a layer of velvety omelette and a generous splash of Sun-dried Tomato Pesto, Avocado and Cheese for an all-around flavour bonanza. Sandwich of the day made to your dietary preferences is what Nikki Ponappa's The Food Lovers Company offers. There's no menu, all you got to do is reach out to Nikki via WhatsApp and tell her your dietary preferences -- vegan, vegetarian, only meat, allergies, and so on.
