We may have been slow to start but Bangalore’s street food scene in the past decade has truly blossomed. The legendary thindi beedis and food carts have stood the test of time while new ones have also carved a niche for themselves. This has also meant that the street food scene has grown more diverse and you can truly get a taste of India. Here’s the ultimate guide to street food in Bangalore.

Thindi Beedis

Entire streets dedicated to food! Who said there was no such thing as Paradise on Earth? Bangalore’s most famous thindi beedi is, of course, VV Puram. Here, you can chomp on jalebis, bath, masala dosas, rasagulla chaat, floating pani puri and whatnot. Once you are done here, you can can also check out the delights the food streets at Nagarathpete, Wilson Garden, Vijaynagar and Marathahalli have on offer. Shopping on Commercial Street? There’s plenty that you can eat there too!

Dosas

You may have 99 problems but dosa’s definitely not one of them, when you hit the streets of Bangalore. The 99 Varieties Dosa cart is a common feature on many of Bangalore’s busy streets {you can try the one at Basavangudi if you are looking for a sure hit}. Want to experiment? Try dosa stuffed with lemon rice at Naveen Kumar’s buzzing stall near Commercial Street. Or swing by Amarnath Chats, near RV College, for their ice cream dosa.

Momos

For many of us, comfort food means a plate of momos. If you are one of the momo’s gazillion fans, then, Darjeeling Hot Momos is an excellent spot to cater to your cravings. The Chicken Cheese Momos and Fried Up Momos at KK Momos, in Cox Town, too have many takers. And if you want your momos to come loaded with melting cheese, then, JCK Momos is the place to be! Love momos so much that you want to spend an entire evening wolfing them down? Then, hit the momo trail in Koramangala, we say!

Pani Puri

Our chaat may not be the best but because Bangalore has only gotten more cosmopolitan, our pani puri is pretty good! We recommend you gulp down plates of gol gappas {or whatever you like to call them} at HSR’s Shubh Sweets where you get five different flavours of pani. Or the chocolate pani puri at Pani Weds Puri. Up for a challenge? Then, sign up for unlimited plates at Agarwal Bhavan or hit the trail at Koramangala.

Kebabs

If the thought of rows of stalls serving up grilled and fried meats makes you dizzy with delight, then, all roads leads to Shivajinagar or Johnson Market for you. Frazer Town is also a great place to appease the meat lover in you. Stop by this nameless one near Everest Theatre. For those of you who prefer to follow the crowds, Siddique Kabab Centre is a must try.

Gobi Manchurian

Others might not get it but Bangalore’s love for Gobi Manchurian is always on the upward climb. Those of you who love the dish or just want to find out what the fuss is about ought to grab a plate at the BDA Complex in Banashankari or try six versions of it at Spurthy Gobi Centre in Vijaynagar.

Rolls

Just like pani puri, our rolls too have improved over time. If you prefer the tried-and-tested local version, then, Fanoos at Johnson Market or New Shahi Kabab Roll Centre in Indiranagar won’t fail you. For the Kaati Roll version then try Roll Er Dukhaan in Jeevanbhimanagar or this hole-in-the-wall eatery near Ramaiah College.

Bombay Sandwiches

One of Mumbai’s famed street foods carved a place for itself in Bangalore too! The Bombay Sandwich is all at its cheesy glory is available at this humble cart just off MG Road. Or you can visit Loafer’s Lane near Mount Carmel for a bite.

Navya considers herself to be the Cassandra of the 21st century – no one ever listens to the wisdom that she so willingly imparts. This is the only Greek tragedy element in her otherwise happy life. She’s got her Husband Charming, has perfected the art of sarcasm, is always fed copious amounts of good food, and is well on her way to self-actualization.
