What Makes It Awesome

Surrounded by the Western Ghats, Bisle Ghat is unofficially called Heaven On Earth and is just a five-hour drive from Bangalore. The drive down is through a reserve forest and waterfalls and if you are looking for a biking destination that's not Nandi Hills, it's this. The ghat section of Bisle, which is a reserve forest near the border of Hassan, has a scenic stretch of pristine reserve forest, mountain ranges, and a trekking trail. So really, it's for the bikers, trekkers, and pretty much anyone who wants to breathe in the fresh mountain air. The view from the Bisle Ghat Viewpoint is truly spectacular.

You really need to see it with the fog cover slowly disappearing. Because once it does, you'll be gaping at the magnificent view of not one, but three mountain ranges -- Yenikallu Betta, Doddabetta and Pushpagiri, and Kumaraparvatha and the expanse of surrounding green. Bisle Reserve Forest is situated here and as you cross the forest range spot monkeys, spotted deers, elephants and peacocks. Since the ghat section is what connects the temple town of Kukke Subramanya with the coffee estates of Sakleshpur, once you are done marvelling at the view, you can hit up either place.

What Could Be Better

Even though Bisle Ghat is well-connected by roads, because of the monsoons, most times the roads are in a terrible condition or filled with debris and closed sometimes. The road leading to Bisle Ghat has no facilities and also no network on most mobile carriers. It's advised that you talk to the localities and the forest reserve people around the region.

Pro-Tip

Do check with the forest department office in Bangalore on which route to take best.
