Half Goan and Half North Eastern, Chubalas Curry And Rice in Kammanahalli straddles a selection of two of the most distinct cuisines in the country. But my loyalties lie with the Seven Sisters. I am all for Naga food.
Naga Thalis And Fiery Chutneys At Chubalas Curry And Rice
Shortcut
Must Eat
Order yourselves either their Fish or Pork thalis and opt for a meaty main. The Naga Smoked Pork Thali comes with boiled rice, Naga dal, boiled vegetable, and a chilli chutney {with or without dry fish} and a smoked pork curry of course. The Roasted Dry Fish with Tomato Relish is excellent as is the Aao Fish Curry cooked with chillies and fresh bamboo shoot.
Must Drink
There isn’t anything special to drink here, except for aerated drinks and water.
Who It’s For
Mainly for meat lovers. Also for those who love food from the North East, and are willing to try new flavours. For those expecting fancy eating arrangements, you can go somewhere else. The restaurant is simple, no-frills place.
What Didn’t Impress Us
I tried the Oja Beef Curry with Shallots, but was disappointed because it didn’t really call out to me. The beef curry was a regular curry with too much masala and no distinguishing flavour, such as the addition of bamboo shoot would evoke.
