What Makes It Awesome

Overlooking the waterside promenade at Orion Mall at Brigade Gateway, Geist Brewing Co.'s taproom's new look makes for a picture-perfect setting. An all-white interior, done up with pops of colour courtesy of the floral mural and the foliage along the sides, gives off that cool and casual yet low-key chic vibe. We love it and so did the Instagram boyfriends doing their due diligence, families resting up after their shopping spree, and friends catching up over a couple of beers. With offices around, a meal with the office bestie and after-work shenanigans are also on the cards.

The makeover extends to the menu as well—it's a global tapas-inspired menu that's tailored for all those moments mentioned above. But before we got into the food, we started off with an Off-Duty Kadubu Lassi (this is the sober version), a drink inspired by Karnataka's kadubu sweet that we enjoyed sipping on. It's not every day you get sober options that hit the spot. The drinks menu, especially the Bartender's Menu is interestingly modelled after the courses of a meal with Siam Sweet Curry from the Mains piquing our interest—a Thai curry meets spiced buttermilk meets vodka situation.

Fried Brie & Fig Chutney, Pumpkin Hummus, and Baked Chutney Clam were the first to arrive on the food front. The Pumpkin Hummus was a revelation and we see ourselves going back for more. For someone who's not all that into cheese, the Fried Brie was something this writer enjoyed (note to self, fried cheese is good!). The Clam works for those who like coconut, coriander and cream flavours— scoop some onto the garlic bread served on the side, and repeat. The Ayam Taliwang Skewers and Beer & Soy Ribs were smash. The skewers had that nice coconutty, chilli kick—we love our Indonesian flavours—while the ribs, chef's kiss! That salty and caramelised flavours and the fall-off-the-bone texture just won it for us.

We ended our happy meal with a Tiramisu that's strong on coffee liqueur.

Of course goes without saying all your Geist brews are on tap, so that paired with the new menu, we'll be back with our friends for more.
