Shortcut

An event space, pub and a co-working spot, all rolled into one {with great design elements}, Hatch makes the trip to Yeshwanthpur worth it.

Opening The Hatch

Located on Tumkur Road, Hatch is hard to miss, thanks to the imposing artwork on its facade showing two hands holding the signboard for the place {the handiwork of Amitabh Kumar, teacher at Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology}. What earlier used to be just Venus Bar & Restaurant now has been redone to include space for Hatch, while retaining a part of the bar. A mix of everything from a venue and a pub to a workspace, Vaibhav Hegde {whose family has owned the restaurant for the past 13 years} describes it as a collaborative space.

Work, Learn And Guzzle

Conceptualised as a space meant for people to share their skills and knowledge through music, art and technology, Hatch is all set to host workshops, classes {salsa sessions coming up soon}, talks, movie screenings and even gigs. However, what really got us interested was that they also let you work out of the space, with a special package {called Hatch Desks} which includes free Wi-fi and coffee, and limited food and drink options. Perfect for when you want to sit back and work, with a mug of beer in hand.

Want something to munch on while you ponder over your tasks? They have regular pub grub as well as coastal dishes to pick from. We recommend their Bang Bang Chicken! {crumb-fried chicken pieces} with homemade dips or the Shrimp Tempura. For mains, a must-try here includes the super-soft Neer Dosa, paired with a serving of Chicken Gassi.

Designed To Inspire

While the place seems deceptively simple, look around and you might see the thought that has gone into its design. We particularly love the lights made with cardboard and wood, featuring origami bull heads and dog heads. Divided into different corners, the engineers’ zone has patent designs put up on the walls {including those of the bat mobile vehicle and Michael Jackson’s shoes!}, with a bookshelf in the period table design, holding books and board games. The music zone is a more fun spot with graffiti work and themed seating {think cushion covers with popular gig posters}, while a smaller smoking room has a gamer theme with consoles and Space Invaders in the decor. What’s more, even the washrooms are designed like a studio or dark room of sorts with photos all around.
