Right in the middle of the forest lies Hulivana, a resort amidst greenery, waterfalls and the calls of wildlife accessible only on horseback or by a jeep. You’re on the third-highest peak in Karnataka, the Jenkalbetta, so don’t forget your camera!
Nearby, there’s a waterfall, a stream, and a spring, so you'll always enjoy the sound of water. The accommodations are made of rock, wood and bricks - perfect for a house in the woods, with seating and a fireplace inside. Feel free to seat yourself and gaze out into the wilderness through the French windows. The food is traditional Malnad cuisine, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian and you also have a self-cooking facility available, with a barbeque grill too! There is also a gazebo outside where you can sit and read a book.
The resort has two villas (housing up to five) and a lumberjack cabin. The villas have basic amenities, ensuite bathrooms and linen provided. The lumberjack cabin can accommodate three people and has a common bathroom. You can even stay in tents, but only between October and May. The villas cost INR 3,500 a night, and the tents INR 2,750 (they change depending on season).
Feel free to birdwatch and catch sight of the Rufous Treepie, check out the resort’s apiary (beekeeping!) or even stargaze. Enjoy water sports including jet-skiing, kayaking and windsurfing nearby, ride through the forest on a mountain bike or go on one or two day guided treks.
