What Makes It Awesome

If you are looking for north Indian food that goes beyond the makhanis and the butter masalas, then vegetarian restaurant Imli needs to be on your go-to list. They are known for their home-style north-Indian food that will have you licking your fingers. A big, spacious house turned into a restaurant, Imli’s first floor section is where you should head to. The partially open terrace-like setting is actually lovely with red flooring, big lamps, a nice cooling Bangalore breeze and is surrounded by trees. Don’t forget to spot the avocado tree in the restaurant compound.

The menu at Imli is extensive and they have covered all the north Indian staples, from chaats to dals and subzis. You will also spot some hard to find dishes here, those that can only be found in home kitchens, made by mommy. Case in point the Arbi Kurkuri, spiced colocasia fritters that go perfect as night time snacks. They have some delectable curries to pick from, our favourite being the Bacchu Makai Do Pyaza, babycorn simmered in an onion, cream and tomato curry. Oh, there's a special section for all you paneer lovers. Can’t deal with so much choice, then just go for their Set Pet Puja, which includes everything from phulka, chawal and paratha combos.

You can also get home specials like kadhi pakodi, chickpea flour fritters dunked in a mildly spiced curd based gravy and the rajma, kidney beans prepared in a mildly spiced gravy. You can mop these up with hot phulkas or a selection of naans, kulchas and missi rotis or plain jeera rice. Yum! Wash it all down with some strong chai or their street style Kalakhatta soda. A meal here will cost anywhere around INR 1,000 for two.

Pro-Tip

You can even come here for desi breakfast as they have an all day long snack menu which include Besan Ka Chilla (chickpea flour pancakes) and Vada Pav.
