The first mixed martial arts school in South India, with a special emphasis on Jiu Jitsu, learn to fight like the pros at this combat sport academy.

Ground Up

Forget football and cricket, UFC {Ultimate Fighting Championship} is the latest sports trend to hit the airwaves. The recent Rhonda Rousey vs Amanda Nunes fight should be enough inspiration for you to want to go learn a combat sports. And if you’re looking to be serious about it, then nothing like making the Indian Combat Sports Academy {though all the way on Bannerghatta Road}, your training school. Even if you’ve never done any training before, you’re welcome to start from scratch here. And don’t be intimidated, they’re really lovely to noobs. And patient!

In Your Defence

Touted to be the first of its kind in South India, this MMA school has a special focus of the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. And we love this, because like the Brazilians, Indian too are slightly smaller than perhaps Europeans, which means technique needs to be spot on to overcome physical power. While it looks easy, grappling on the floor while using methods to fights is hard, and from experience, it’s a hectic workout. If you’re not into this, then maybe the kickboxing sessions or wrestling will be more your kind of fight?

Mix It Up

Vighnesh Nathan {whose forte is Jiu Jitsu, wrestling and Tae-kwon-do} and Jitesh Banjan {who is a kick boxing pro} are the head coaches here, and under their guidance, you can rest assured that whichever sport or art you take up, perfecting technique will be priority. What’s great here is that they will help you understand what you are doing, and how it helps your style, rather than just expect you to do as they say. That said, brace yourself for a few punches and kicks before you get on your feet properly.

We particularly like the MMA sessions that weave striking and grappling skills from kickboxing, Jiu Jitsu and wrestling all into one. You even need to apply martial arts knowledge to give it an all-round fight. Or, get knocked out!

#LBBTip

It’s recommended to start with a few months of strength conditioning, just to make sure you’re physically and mentally prepared to fight.
