When in Kabini, stay at the rustic Jungle Lodge Resorts’ property for that old-school hunting lodge charm, coracle rides, elephants wading and that call of the wild. Maybe there’s no swimming pool or fancy power shower here, but what you get at the Kabini River Lodge, you won’t get anywhere else — unadulterated nature at its best. That too on a riverside. If you’re looking for an all-out adventure, then book yourself into the tents. With a thatched roof for that extra ring of safety, the six tents really plonk you in the thick of things. We especially love the foyer where you can just tune out of city life, and check-in with nature. Oh, did we mention that they are also located smack on the riverfront? For those who don’t quite want to rough it out, they have homely cottages and even a dormitory for 10 and rooms to house about 20 guests. Oh, and take it up a notch at the Maharaja cottages.
You can’t leave without a coracle ride on the river Kabini. From deer and elephants, to the elusive tiger and crocodile, your best chance at spotting wildlife in on this ride. Can’t get enough of the great outdoors? Hop onto the jeep safari as well, to try our luck at spotting more animals. Once you’re done and dusty from the jungles, hit up their well-stocked bar (it was after all a hunting lodge once!) and then retreat to the Gol Ghar for a buffet comprising Indian and Chinese food with a smattering of Continental cuisine. Walks and hikes in the area will be organised if you like, but star gazing from the grounds is free and absolutely magnificent. Lazy daisies, they also have an Ayurvedic Spa to massage your woes away.
