Have a culinary trip to Malabar households through Date With Coconut, a home kitchen started by Jafar and Saleena. A couple in their 40s, the duo has entered the Bengaluru food scene with their take on Malabar and Arabic food. If your idea of comfort food is steaming hot Kerala porottas and dark, beef/chicken roast, this is for you. Date With Coconut sells around four dishes per week that are all slow cooked (their specialty, we hear), homemade and comforting. This is what they call, ‘love across the Arabian Sea.’
Porotta and roast. Enough said. Apart from being a raging hit across the Malayalam speaking populace in general, this eatery has revamped the idea of the Malabar classic with its dum variant. Clay pots layered with porottas, heaped with steaming hot curry roast (meat as available) and topped with fried onions and raisins, sealed with a banana leaf and put on charcoal dum. It will make you go "adipwolli!". Their Arab-originated pathiri, thin rice pancakes served with curry, a staple in almost any Malabar household, had us in a food coma. We also recommend their Mandi Biryani and their Hummus with pita bread.
Date With Coconut’s delicacies range between INR 300 - INR 350 (inclusive of delivery charges) for a complete meal and their menu is released every Monday. Place your orders through LBB's Enquire Now feature and have them delivered on Wednesdays or weekends. Also keep an eye on their Instagram for updates and weekly menus. Currently due to COVID-19 restrictions, they have a fixed menu of hot and cold beverages, snacks and light eats like sandwiches and a set of their bestseller mains. Enquire with them on LBB to know more.
