Located on the happening Residency Road, Pashto is a small restaurant that stands out with its quirky setup, complete with colourful chairs and checkered couches. Walk in through a blue entrance shaped like a Mughal palace, and find a table in their fairly small place, which gets progressively difficult as lunchtime approaches, which is when people start coming in.
The menu boast of North Indian, Afghani and Mughlai fare, which means that you can find shorba, kebabs and biryani here. We tried the Khumb Khazana, a tandoor mushroom starter stuffed with spinach and cheese. Rich and delicious, this one is a bit of an indulgence. In fact, nothing here is for any of you calorie-counters. This is purely a cheat day only joint. We also tried the Galawati Kebab, a delicious and juicy mutton mince tikka with a blend of spices, served with a roti. Their paneer dishes like Paneer Makhani and Paneer Peshawari were another winner with us for their soft, melt-in-your-mouth texture.
The Mughal Era
We ended things on a sweet note with their Gajar Ka Halwa, kulfi and phirni, all of which were excellent, so it’s full marks for dessert from us. We also want to give a shoutout to the quirky interiors of this place. With plenty of Mughal elements, mixed with modern sensibilities, this is quite a cute and inviting dining space. With blue and orange chairs and tabletops made with patterned tiles, it’s quite a kitsch space. And the coloured lamps and lanterns hanging overhead only add to its overall charm.
Prices are reasonable too, setting you back by only INR 400 a meal. Our only complaint was the playlist which was mainly poor and badly sung covers of old Hindi songs. Not our music, but definitely our kinda food.
